Komatsu adds the WA400 wheel loader to the latest range of Dash-5 models
19/07/2002

Following the launch of the WA380-5 wheel loader at this year's SED, Marubeni-Komatsu has now announced the availability of the 19 tonne WA400-5, which extends the latest Dash-5 range to four models.

The WA400 is powered by a Komatsu design engine developing 154 kW (208 hp) at just 2000 rpm which drives via an 'high power' torque converter, with a lock-up facility, to give significant increases in both traction and hill climbing. In load and carry operations, faster work cycles can be achieved with this powerful loader with simultaneous savings in fuel consumption.

Weighing 19 tonne and able to carry buckets from 3.3 to 5.5 cu m, the WA400 offers outstanding driver comfort and simplicity of operation. Komatsu's new SpaceCab has 25% additional volume than the old model, an ergonomically designed air cushioned seat and a reach and rake adjustable steering column. With internal and external noise levels of just 71 dB (A) and 105 dB (A) respectively, this new wheel loader has some of the lowest noise emission values in its class.

A long lifting frame provides an excellent maximum dumping height of 3031 mm with a reach of 1161 mm when the machine is equipped with the universal 3.3 cu m bucket making it the ideal tool for re-handling duties.

Access for maintenance and servicing has been improved using large gull-wing doors around the engine bay and intervals between engine oil and filter changes have been doubled to 500 hours. In addition, an on-board data diagnosis display simplifies and speeds service procedures via a character display system.

Komatsu also now offers an optional semi-automatic 'dig' function aided by electrical pre-selection. This function allows a pre-programmed bucket-filling operation to be carried out, requiring no manual operation of the bucket controls when digging out of a stockpile.
