HE Group headquarters at Strood in Kent was the meeting place for a recent visit by the senior management from Komatsu Europe and Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd. The purpose of the meeting was to view the brand new Komatsu PC340 excavator that had been delivered to HE Services (Plant Hire) Ltd. This PC340 had been specially manufactured by Komatsu for HE and features a boom and dipper that gives the excavator a maximum 22 metres reach.

Hugh Edeleanu, the innovative founder of HE Services, the UK’s leading Excavator Hire company, has built his company’s reputation by listening to customers’ needs and offering quality products, good service and value for money. The addition to the fleet of the PC340, with an extended reach capability, is a prime example of his forward thinking and will benefit customers who require excavators to be able to operate in situations where the maximum reach of the boom is critical. HE Services already have 20 Komatsu Super Reach Excavators, with 15 metres reach, in their fleet and the need for such machines was recently demonstrated when HE Services were called in to help off load grain from a cargo ship which was sinking at its mooring and the dock side cranes could not get low enough to excavate the grain. The long reach of the Komatsu machine was able to unload the grain before the cargo was spoiled by seawater. The new 22 metres reach PC340 will provide even greater flexibility in a wide variety of challenging applications.

The design and manufacture of this special PC340 was the result of co-operation between the three companies - HE Services, Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd and Komatsu Europe.  Mr.Komamura, Chairman and Managing Director of Komatsu Europe and Mr.Yano, Managing Director of Marubeni-Komatsu Ltd were both accompanied by Hugh Edeleanu and Peter Durey (MD of HE Services) to see a demonstration of this unique PC340 in action at the Medway River docks.

Komatsu excavators now form a substantial part of the HE Services fleet due to Komatsu’s excellent quality and reliability, minimum downtime, low maintenance costs and excellent resale values.
