Unusual hedge cutting machine combination 12/11/2002
A Cambridgeshire based groundworks and landscaping contractor is finding success with the unusual pairing of a Komatsu mini excavator and a Reco 800 mm wide flail mower.
One of the many tasks undertaken by the company is the upkeep of hedges surrounding small paddocks and owner Mick Rush finds his new machine combination ideal for reaching areas that would be inaccessible to a conventional tractor-mounted setup.
Commenting on his equipment choice Mr. Rush said: “Besides being able to get into every nook and cranny with ease using the excavator’s arm geometry, my customers really appreciate the minimal ground damage caused by a tracked rather than wheeled machine.”
The PC20R-8 from Komatsu’s Utility range is powered by a 4-cylinder Yanmar diesel engine developing 17.4 kW (23.3 hp) @ 2600 rpm and features the company’s exclusive CLSS hydraulic load sensing system which provides the smooth and responsive operation usually only associated with larger excavators.
Supplied to Mr. Rush by local dealer Ernest Doe & Sons, the machine has a maximum digging depth and reach of 2350 mm and 4250 mm respectively when fitted with the standard length arm.
