Kelly Plant Hire swings into sewage treatment works 18/03/2008
Shaun Kelly, Managing Director of Kelly Plant Hire Ltd, made the decision to purchase three new Komatsu PC138US-8 machines from sole distributor Marubeni-Komatsu, following a long-term hire of three machines of the same model.
Shaun was so pleased with the performance of the short-tail swing excavator, he realised it was the ideal machine to extend his fleet. The purchase marks the first tracked Komatsu machines to be taken by the Redditch-based Plant Hire company.
The machines are being used on a 10 year project at Minworth’s sewage treatment works situated in the north east of Birmingham. The treatment works serves a population of over 1.3 million and receives 540,000 litres of sewage every day.
With an operating weight of 13.5 tonne and 92 Horsepower, the PC138US-8 machines are perfect for work in confined areas where a conventional machine wouldn’t be suitable, yet still powerful enough in its application.
Kelly Plant Hire is well-known in the West Midlands, having been involved in a wide range of projects over the last twenty years including numerous contracts at Birmingham and Heathrow Airports, the construction of the M6 Toll Road and continuing partnering with major construction companies, specialising in work at sensitive locations.
Working in today’s construction industry means that on-site safety is something that needs to remain at the forefront of every company directors’ mind. The PC138US-8’s short-tail swing radius reduces the chances of contact at swing. In addition, Shawn has had extra beacons fitted to his machines and safety triangle beacons fitted to the rear counterweight at eye level.
Shaun Kelly, comments on his latest investment:
“Marubeni-Komatsu has provided us with the whole package; the three machines, the finance from Marubeni-Komatsu Construction Equipment finance, the parts, service and extended warranty agreement and the ongoing monitoring of the machines through the impressive Komtrax system.
After hiring three of the PC138US-8 machines and our operators being so impressed with them, it was only natural that our next investment would be Komatsu.”
