Komatsu introduces new backhoe loader model
21/06/2002

Some of the first Komatsu WB97R-2 backhoe loaders to be sold in the UK have recently been delivered to Birmingham based Burke Plant Hire by Marubeni-Komatsu of Redditch.

The six machines purchased by Burke have replaced a similar number of Komatsu WB93 models which have given excellent service during the last three years.

The introduction of the WB97R-2 increases Komatsu's line-up of backhoe loaders to a choice of three models. This latest machine is powered by a Komatsu 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine developing 73 kW @ 2200 rpm, driving through a full powershift transmission. This transmission guarantees permanent traction at all times, even during gear changes, and allows a maximum speed of 40 km/h and an ability to change speed or direction of travel at full power.

Like all Komatsu backhoe loaders, the WB97 is equipped with the 'Syncro System' hydraulics, the heart of which is a variable flow-rate pump feeding the exclusive Closed Load Sensing System. This system ensures that power is only delivered as and when it is required for maximum operating efficiency.

With standard front end bucket, lift capacity at maximum height is 3900 kg with a breakout force of 6500 kg. The backhoe provides a digging depth of up to 4950 mm with a maximum reach of 5550 mm for the standard, non-telescopic arm.

Commenting on the WB97, Jim Burke said: "It is nice to see that Komatsu has incorporated several improvements on the latest versions of its backhoe loader range. In particular, access for routine maintenance is much better and the ride control system, which is now offered as standard equipment, gives really smooth travel between sites."
