New Komatsu excavators chosen for major chemical plant demolition contract 30/10/2002
A Komatsu demolition specification PC600LC-6, the first to be supplied in the UK by Marubeni-Komatsu, forms part of an 8-strong fleet of Komatsu equipment currently being used by the KDC Group on an 18 month demolition contract in Huddersfield.
The PC600 is equipped with a heavy lift straight boom, currently fitted with a massive 6 tonne shear, which provides a maximum reach of over 15m. To protect the machine from possible damage, it is equipped with heavy-duty sideskirts and belly guards and the operator benefits from a level 2 Operator Protection Guard (OPG) cab incorporating a high visibility roof window with wash/wipe facility.
Powered by a Komatsu diesel engine producing 287 kW (385 hp) @ 1800 rpm, this special PC600 has been developed by Komatsu UK's Working Gear division at its Birtley factory which specialises in the production of non-standard machines.
The KDC Group is a specialist service provider to the construction and chemical industries providing turnkey maintenance, civil engineering and demolition services. The project in Huddersfield is being carried out on behalf of Syngenta plc and involves the demolition and remediation of large, redundant chemical plant and associated structures within a live working environment.
Besides the PC600, KDC is also using a pair of recently purchased 25 m, high reach PC450's, a PC340, a PW170 wheeled excavator equipped with a magnet, a WA250 wheel loader and a Moxy MT30 dump truck.
